Application

The application forms to register with the South African Council for Social Service Professions can be download below. Click on the link (number of the specific form) to download the specific form.

STEP 1: READ THE REGULATIONS
The Regulations indicate the requirements for registration. It is important that you read it before you start the application process. You can download it under Requirements and criteria

STEP 2: COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FORM
Make sure that you complete the correct application for registration form. The different forms can be downloaded below.
Read the instructions on the Form carefully before you start completing the form.

STEP 3: PAY THE REQUIRED FEES
Payment of the correct registration fee as well as annual fee is required. See the Regulations relating to the fees payable by social workers, child and youth care workers, social auxiliary workers, auxiliary child and youth care workers, student social workers and student child and youth care workers, which was amended through Government Notice 221 published in the Government Gazette No 42240 of 22 February 2019. You can download it from Council’s website.
REMEMBER – always include a reference number with your payment.

STEP 4: INCLUDE THESE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Your application is only complete if the required supporting documents are included. Without these documents your application is incomplete and will be returned to you for re-submission. Make sure that you include these (see the Form for more detailed information).

STEP 5: MAKE SURE THAT IT IS COMPLETE
Double check that you have completed the form correctly and that you have included all the supporting documents. There is also a check list on the last page of the form to help you.

STEP 6: KEEP A COPY
Make copies of your completed application form and your proof of payment for your own records.

STEP 7: SEND IT
Put everything together – the application form with all the supporting documents and proof of payment to Council – and send by registered mail or courier.

STEP 8: MONITOR PROGRESS AND RESPOND TO QUERIES
Keep an eye on your Email, SMS message or mail for feedback from Council.

The application forms to register with the South African Council for Social Service Professions can be downloaded below. Click on the form number to download the specific form.Please make sure that you complete the correct form.

IMPORTANT:

  • Please follow the instructions on the form and make sure that all the required supporting documents accompany your application as incomplete applications result in unnecessary delays. Incomplete applications cannot be processed and will be referred back to the applicant. This will cause an unnecessary delay in the processing and finalisation of restoration of your name to the Register.
  • An additional fee will apply for incomplete applications that were referred back upon the resubmission of such an application.

If you have been registered as a social worker or social auxiliary worker or for a speciality in social work, please READ below:

  • Persons who were registered with the SACSSP as a social worker, social auxiliary worker or for a speciality in social work before and wish to restore (reinstate) their registration a social worker, social auxiliary worker or for a speciality in social work must follow the RESTORATION procedures.
  • Please note this does not apply if you are currently registered as a student social worker or social auxiliary worker and apply to be registered as a social worker (then you need to complete FORM R.1.SW.1).

Registration

SOCIAL WORKERS
Registering for the FIRST TIME as a social worker:

FORM R.1.SW.1
Social workers who register for the FIRST time as a social worker with the SACSSP

FORM R.6.SW.1
Social workers who register for the first time as a social worker with the SACSSP and who have obtained their basic qualification outside of the Republic of South Africa, must complete.  Also see FOREIGN QUALIFICATIONS.

Specialities in social work

FORM R.4.SW.1
Social workers who want to register for the first time a speciality in social work, must complete. A separate application form must be completed for each speciality is social work that you register for.
If you were registered with the SACSSP for a speciality in social work before and wish to restore your registration for that specific speciality, you must follow the RESTORATION procedures.

SOCIAL AUXILIARY WORKERS

Registering for the FIRST TIME as a social auxiliary worker:

FORM R.1.SW.2
Social auxiliary workers who register for the first time as a social auxiliary worker with the SACSSP, must complete.

FORM R.6.SW.2
Social auxiliary workers who register for the first time as social auxiliary worker with the SACSSP and who have obtained their basic qualification outside of the Republic of South Africa, must complete.  Also see FOREIGN QUALIFICATIONS.

STUDENTS IN SOCIAL WORK AND SOCIAL AUXILIARY WORK
Registering for the FIRST TIME as a student social worker:

FORM R.1.SW.3
Student social workers who register for the FIRST time as a student social worker with the SACSSP.

FORM R.1.SW.3
A student who has abandoned his or her studies in social work for a period longer than 3 years.

FORM R.1.SW.3
A person who cannot register as a social worker in terms of the Social Service Professions Act 110 of 1978 and who wishes to enroll for a post basic qualification in social work.

FORM R.1.SW.3
A student in social work that studies outside South Africa who wishes to do his or her field instruction or experimental learning in the Republic of South Africa to be registered with the SACSSP.

Registering for the FIRST TIME as a student social auxiliary worker:

FORM R.1.SW.4
Student social auxiliary workers who register for the FIRST time as a student social worker with the SACSSP.

FORM R.1.SW.4
A student who has abandoned his or her studies in social auxiliary work for a period longer than 3 years.

Change Of Particulars

Social workers, social auxiliary workers, students social workers and student auxiliary workers are obliged in accordance with the respective Regulations to keep their details on the respective Registers, kept by Council as contemplated in section 19 of the Social Service Professions Act 110 of 1978, up to date whenever there is a name change or change in my residential or postal address or other contact details.

Whenever there is a change in name or surname the Registrar must be informed in writing with the supporting evidence within 3 months of such change. Download the required form below.

Whenever there is a change in residential address, postal address or other contact details such as telephone numbers or email address, the Registrar must be informed in writing within 6 weeks of such change. Download the required form below.

Notice of Change of name and/or change of residential and postal address

FORM RR.1

To be completed and submitted by registered social workers, social auxiliary workers, student social workers, student social auxiliary work, child and youth care workers, auxiliary child and youth care workers, student child and youth care workers and student auxiliary child and youth care workers.

Certificates

Registration Certificates issued by the South African Council for Social Service Professions provide proof that a person is registered with Council for his or her profession and that his or her name has been entered into the Register for that profession kept by Council in terms of section 19 of the Social Service Professions Act 110 of 1978. The validity of a Registration Certificate and the name of the person to be kept on the Register are subject to the timely payment of annual fees as prescribed.

A person registered with Council is required to display his or her Registration Certificate in his or her office or place where he or she practises the profession he or she is registered for. Persons who are registered for any speciality should also display the Registration Certificate for the speciality.

Duplicates of Registration Certificates may be requested from Council in the prescribed manner and at the prescribed fee. Click here for the procedures that need to be followed.

Registration Card

The South African Council for Social Service Professions issues annual, upon payment of annual fees, a registration card to each practitioner, in addition to the receipt of payment, that indicates that he or she is registered with Council as prescribed by the Social Service Professions Act 110 of 1978. The registration card provides details on the name of the person, registration number, professional status and period registered (one year).
