If a person who was registered with the SACSSP, i.e. his or her name was removed from the Register in accordance with section 20(1) of the Social Service Professions Act 110 of 1978, he or she may apply to restore his or her name in accordance with section 20(3) of the Act in the prescribed manner (see application for restoration below) to request that his or name be restored to the Register.
Application for Restoration
Persons who were registered with the SACSSP as a social worker, social auxiliary worker or for a speciality in social work before and wish to restore (reinstate) their registration a social worker, social auxiliary worker or for a speciality in social work must follow the restoration procedures.

Step 1: Read the ACT AND Regulations
Section 20 of the Act as well as the relevant Regulations indicate the requirements for restoration. It is important that you read it before you start the application process. You can download it under Requirements and criteria.
Step 2: Complete the APPLICATION FORM
Make sure that you complete the correct application for restoration form. The different forms can be downloaded below.
Read the instructions on the Form carefully before you start completing the form.
Step 3: Pay the required FEES
Payment of the correct restoration fee as well as annual fee are required. See the Regulations relating to the fees payable by social workers, child and youth care workers, social auxiliary workers, auxiliary child and youth care workers, student social workers and student child and youth care workers, which was amended through Government Notice 221 published in the Government Gazette No 42240 of 22 February 2019. REMEMBER – always include a reference number with your payment.
Step 4: Include these required DOCUMENTS
Your application for restoration is only complete if the required supporting documents are included. Without these documents your application is incomplete and will be returned to you for resubmission. Make sure that you include these (see the Form for more detailed information).
Step 5: MAKE SURE THAT IT IS COMPLETE
Double check that you have completed the form correctly and that you have included all the supporting documents. There is also a check list on the last page of the form to help you.
Step 6: KEEP A COPY
Make copies of your completed application for restoration form and your proof of payment for your own records.
Step 7: SEND IT
Put everything together – the application form with all the supporting documents and proof of payment to Council – and send by registered mail or courier.
Step 8: monitor progress and respond to queries
Keep an eye on your email, sms message or mail for feedback from Council.

- Please follow the instructions on the form and make sure that all the required supporting documents accompany your application as incomplete applications result in unnecessary delays. Incomplete applications cannot be processed and will be referred back to the applicant. This will cause an unnecessary delay in the processing and finalisation of restoration of your name to the Register.
- An additional fee will apply for incomplete applications that were referred back upon the resubmission of such an application.
If you are currently registered as a student social worker or social auxiliary worker and apply to be registered as a social worker for the first time, then you need to complete FORM R.1.SW.1.

Social workers who were registered with the SACSSP for a speciality in social work before and wish to restore their registration for that specific speciality.
