The following activities were undertaken during the period 2 September to 4 October 2024 

Registrations:

  • a total of 1786 practice cards were issues to registrants. 

  • 52 social workers, 34 student social workers, 37 social auxiliary workers, 56 student social auxiliary workers, 12 child and youth care workers, 12 student child and youth care workers, 54 auxiliary child and youth care workers and 10 student auxiliary child and youth care workers were registered.

  • 79 status of registration reports processed,

  • nine verifications of international qualifications in terms of section 17D of the Social Service Professions Act, 110 of 1978, as amended were conducted. 

  • Eight social workers, one social auxiliary worker and 30 auxiliary child and youth care workers were restored to the respective registers. 

Education, training and development 

The Continuing Professional Development panel assessed 49 CPD applications, 44 were approved and five were not approved. 

Professional Conduct 

The Committee of Preliminary Inquiry investigated 17 complaints of unprofessional or improper conduct against social workers herein referred to as Respondents. Six complaints were closed on the basis that they do not constitute unprofessional or improper conduct on the part of the Respondents. Five complaints have been referred to be dealt with in terms of Regulation 8 of Regulations regarding the conducting of inquiries into alleged unprofessional conduct and six were referred for disciplinary inquiry.
