AUGUST AT A GLANCE: Your SACSSP@Work
On 30 August 2024 the Professional Boards for Social Work and Child and Youth Care Work hosted a joint webinar on the continuing professional development (CPD) for social service professionals to inform the sector on the CPD policies for social work and child and youth care work. The webinar was attended by 855 social service professionals, while an additional 1,173 persons viewed the webinar on the SACSSP’s YouTube channel to date. The following provides some insights on the last two weeks of August 2024:
Practice cards: 3,396 practice cards issued
Registration: 43 social workers, 34 student social workers, 30 social auxiliary workers, 23 student social auxiliary workers, 5 child and youth care workers, 4 student child and youth care workers, 53 auxiliary child and youth care workers and 12 student auxiliary child and youth care workers were registered and their names were inserted to the respective Registers.
Status of registration: 40 status of registration reports issued for social workers
Registrants 65 years and older: 56 registrants aged 65 years or older were exempted from the payment of annual fees as per regulation 3(a) of the Regulations on Fees payable and informed accordingly.
Qualifications: 10 qualifications obtained outside the country were verified in terms of section 17D of the Social Service Professions Act 110 of 1978.
Continuing professional development: 21 new CPD applications received, 48 CPD applications were assessed, 45 CPD applications were approved, two CPD applications were not approved due to insufficient documents submitted and one application not approved due to a facilitator not meeting registration requirements with the SACSSP.
Professional conduct: The Committee of Preliminary Inquiry (CPI) investigated 14 complaints of unprofessional or improper conduct lodged against social service professionals and of these five complaints were closed, due to lack of evidence; four complaints were referred for a preliminary inquiry in terms of regulation 8 of the Regulations regarding the conducting of inquiries into alleged unprofessional conduct; two matters were deffered pending submission of documents by the Respondent and three matters were referred for disciplinary inquiry by the Professional Conduct Committee.
