SACSSP Secretariat continues to fast-track registration applications. From 8 to 29 January 2024 the Registrations division processed and registered 73 social workers, 111 student social workers, 19 social auxiliary workers, 12 student social auxiliary workers, 2 child and youth care workers, 41 auxiliary child and youth care workers and 4 student child and youth care workers. The division also issued 78 status of registration reports, completed 29 verifications of international qualifications in terms of section 17D of the Act.

During this period 121 applications for exemption on payment of annual fees for 2024/2025 financial year from unemployed social service professions who have been unemployed for three (3) consecutive months or longer nor have any form of income were received;103 are approved and 18 are still under consideration.
The Education, training and development division assessed 24 CPD applications; 21 were approved and 3 were not approved.
The Committee of Preliminary Inquiry (CPI) investigated and finalised three complaints of unprofessional or improper conduct lodged against Social Service Professionals. These matters were dealt with in terms of Regulation 8 and all respondents presented their oral evidence before the CPI. The Respondents were found guilty and the Committee imposed the sanction in terms of section 22(1)(a) of the Social Service Professions Act, 110 of 1978.
On 31 January 2024, the SACSSP hosted a webinar on the Regulations regarding the registration of students to create awareness on requirements for registration of students with the SACSSP, their obligations and responsibilities of higher education institutions and training institutions involved in the training and education of social service professionals.
UPDATES & ANNOUNCEMENTS
The SACSSP is currently conducting registration outreaches for students and other registrants at various universities and some of the Department of Social Development offices . Board notice 562 of 2024 on the SACSSP nominations announcement for one Child and Youth Care Worker to serve on Council was published on 16 February 2024.
